Yankee Doodle Cricket (1975)

Chester the cricket and his pals Harry the cat and Tucker the mouse are transported back to early colonial days to help America win its independence in this enjoyable children's feature. They compose "Yankee Doodle Dandy," march with George Washington's troops, get Paul Revere out of bed in time to warn everyone about the British, and even aid Thomas Jefferson in the writing of the Declaration of Independence. It's hard to imagine that American history could be made so merry, but it has; maverick "looney-tune" director Chuck Jones shoots this patriotic firecracker high into the stratosphere. Kids will find plenty to cheer and laugh about as they learn an important history lesson or two. The characters are based on the series of children's books by George Selden, who collaborated with Jones on the famous CRICKET IN TIMES SQUARE and A VERY MERRY CRICKET, released two years previously.
